Primary Indications (Dental Surgery):
- Periodontal surgery (periodontal soft tissue closures)
- Oral surgery (mucosal adaptation, wound closure)
- Implantology (aesthetic suturing techniques, soft tissue management)
- Cosmetic mucosal sutures (minimal scarring)
- Soft tissue grafts (free gingival grafts, connective tissue grafts)
- Extraction surgery (atraumatic wound closures)
- Recession coverage
- Vestibuloplasties
- Frenectomies (lip and tongue tie surgery)
- Mucosal flap procedures
- Aesthetic periodontal surgery
- Pre-prosthetic surgery
Other Applications: General soft tissue closure, skin closure, plastic surgery (aesthetic sutures), gynecology, urology, ophthalmic surgery, subcutaneous and intracutaneous adaptations
Advantages for Dentistry:
- Monofilament structure – minimal plaque accumulation and bacterial adhesion
- Excellent pliability – easy handling even in confined areas
- Smooth surface – atraumatic tissue passage without a sawing effect
- Excellent knot security despite monofilament construction
- No suture removal required – optimal patient comfort
- Rapid initial wound healing – ideal for well-vascularized oral tissues
- Minimal foreign body sensation for the patient
- Reduced infection risk due to smooth, non-capillary structure
- Excellent cosmetic results – especially in the anterior region
- High initial tensile strength during the critical healing phase (first week)
- Violet coloration allows optimal visual control during surgery
- Undyed variant for maximum aesthetics in mucosal sutures
Contraindications:
- Tissues requiring long-term support (>120 days)
- Situations with extremely slow wound healing
- Patients with known hypersensitivity to polyglecaprone
- High-tension sutures requiring prolonged stabilization
- Fascial or tendon sutures with a long healing period
- Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (relative contraindication)
- Severe immunosuppression
- Acute infections in the surgical area
- Cardiovascular or neurological tissue
Special Features: SURGICRYL MONOFAST is the ideal absorbable suture material for aesthetic dental surgery. Its monofilament structure combined with rapid initial strength makes it particularly suitable for visible areas in the mouth. The smooth surface minimizes plaque accumulation, leading to improved oral hygiene during the healing phase. Rapid absorption after initial wound healing (7-14 days) reduces patient discomfort and eliminates the need for suture removal – especially advantageous for anxious patients or children.
Technical Notes: Due to its monofilament structure, it is recommended to use at least 4-5 knots (surgical knot + 3-4 single knots) for optimal knot security. In intracutaneous or submucosal suturing techniques, SURGICRYL MONOFAST offers excellent gliding properties.
